The Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) manages and maintains 1,606 Public Housing rental units throughout the City of Oakland for eligible low-income families, seniors and people with disabilities. OHA is committed to providing decent, safe and sanitary housing, in good repair, to low income families at an affordable rent.

FAMILY PROPERTIES


OHA provides 762 units in two family public housing properties: Lockwood G​ardens​ in East Oakland and 

Peralta Village in West Oakland. OHA’s traditional family properties were built during or after World War II as affordable and work force housing options for returning war veterans and their families.  

SENIOR PROPERTIES
OHA has 537 Senior units in five properties throughout the City of Oakland. Each property is managed by a 3rd party property management company and overseen by OHA’s Asset Management Department​. 

MIXED-INCOME PROPERTIES
Mixed-income housing developments are comprised of housing with various levels of affordability, including market-rate and affordable housing within the same property.  Mixed income properties contribute to the long term OHA goal of decentralizing public housing and providing more opportunities for public housing residents to transition to self-sufficiency

To be eligible for Public Housing, Families must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Earn 80 percent of area median income or less as a household
  • Have acceptable rental and criminal histories.
  • Be U.S. citizens or have eligible immigration status.
  • Pay a flat or income-based rent
