Got Children’s Books?
Several years ago, the Oakland Housing Authority started a program to provide books to children of our low-income clients who are conducting business at our administrative buildings. The books not only entertain the children while their parents/caregivers obtain housing services, but they are encouraged to take them home. Many of these children do not have access to books as their parents are focused on providing the basics of a decent place to live, food and clothing with their limited income. Often the books provided by the Housing Authority are the only reading materials in the family’s home. To date, over 10,000 books have been distributed to these children through this book program.
If you have any gently used or new children’s books that you would like to donate, please send an email to donatekidsbooks@oakha.org with your name and phone number and
we will arrange to pick them up or let you know where you can drop them off.
We will be happy to take them off your hands for this worthwhile program and make sure they get in the little hands that will love and enjoy them.
